REBIC – Cornelius Will Hold Important Master Plan Community Meetings This Month

CORNELIUS, NC – The Town of Cornelius will hold two separate Downtown Master Plan community meetings at the end of the month, April 29 and 30.

The open house will be held over two days in the Town Hall Community Room, 21445 Catawba Ave, Cornelius NC, in a convenient, drop-in format:

• Wednesday, April 29 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
• Thursday, April 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Members of the public can drop in at any point during the above hours to review and provide feedback to the updated draft Downtown Master Plan. Plan updates will be visible at stations throughout the room, and staff will be available to answer questions and receive feedback. These updates are primarily to the transportation and implementation sections of the plan, providing a clear outline of the plan’s scope and adjusting recommendations to align with recent neighborhood feedback.

The 2050 Downtown Cornelius Master Plan establishes a 25-year conceptual vision for the future of the Old Town area, including incremental recommendations for land use, development characteristics, transportation improvements, branding, and historic preservation. The plan is currently in draft format. Adoption is contemplated later into 2026, following receipt of comments from the public and further evaluation by the board of commissioners. A full updated draft of the Plan is also available for download and review at www.cornelius.org/downtown.

The Town values public input and looks forward to continuing to engage with residents throughout the planning process.

Rob’s Take: An opportunity for community feedback is at the core of advocacy. It is only effective when a broad range of voices share a collective vision. We encourage this kind of engagement to help mitigate the voices of those who, sometimes without being educated, and sometimes in anger, insist the few should control the many.
