Charlotte Future 2040 Policy Map Update – 5/4/26
On April 14, 2026, Charlotte City Council adopted seven draft Community Area Plans and amended seven adopted Charlotte Future 2040 Community Area Plans. We’re excited to share that the Policy Map updates included in those plans have now been incorporated into the Adopted Policy Map, which is ready for use.
You can view the latest Adopted Policy Map:
- On the Planning Department’s Long Range webpage: visit the map here
- On Charlotte Explorer: open the map, go to the “Planning” menu, and turn on the “Charlotte Future 2040 Policy Map” layer.
As a result, the Revised Policy Map developed during the Community Area Plan process has been retired since all approved updates are now reflected in the Adopted Policy Map.
These map updates will also appear in the final Community Area Plan documents. Staff is finalizing those documents now, and the final PDFs will be published on the Planning Department’s Long Range webpage on Monday, May 11.
One last update: the cltfuture2040.com website will be retired at the end of the summer. All information from that project website has been moved to the Planning Department’s Long Range webpage. Please bookmark this page and begin using it as your main source for Charlotte Future 2040 information.
Thank you for your continued interest in Charlotte Future 2040.
