The NAIOP Charlotte leadership is closely monitoring the rapidly evolving COVID-19 outbreak. The health and well-being of our members is our top priority, and we are taking the threat of this virus seriously. After continued monitoring of events and reviewing protocol of other similar organizations, we have decided the responsible course is to adopt social distancing protocol for all NAIOP Charlotte activities through mid-April. We are doing this not only to protect you, your colleagues and our community. We are looking at manners to deliver programs remotely and encouraging small groups to meet virtually. The specific steps we are taking:
The NAIOP State Conference in Pinehurst is postponed. We are working to gather more details about the new dates, transferring room reservations, and registrations. When we have more information, we will notify you as soon as possible. Updates will be available at www.naiopnc.org.

Watch a short video and get to know Larry Lance, 2020 NAIOP Chairman.
As he visits chapters and represents NAIOP throughout the year, Lance says he plans to emphasize the relationships and partnerships that come from NAIOP membership. “NAIOP has always strived to serve our members at every stage of their careers. Over the next year, I’d like to focus on helping our CEOs and Developing Leaders in particular to deepen their engagement with NAIOP and with each other,” he said during comments at CRE. Converge 2019. “My challenge to CEOs is to not wait until retirement to give back, and to get more involved with NAIOP through the Forums program or the Research Foundation.”
Lance is a 33-year NAIOP member, having joined the organization in 1987. Throughout his long membership, he has given his time as a member of the board, where he has led the government affairs committee, served on the Developer of the Year selection committee and Development magazine editorial board, and been a NAIOP-PAC Trustee.

NAIOP works with chapters to engage with state leaders on legislative proposals and policies that impact commercial real estate. A key event in many states is a “Day at the Capitol,” which gives members the opportunity to meet state policymakers and discuss important issues.
Members of NAIOP’s three North Carolina chapters (Charlotte, North Carolina Piedmont Triad and Raleigh Durham) converged in Raleigh to take part in the annual event. They discussed topics that are important to NAIOP North Carolina including economic development, tax reform and regulatory reform. For example, the state alliance is supporting a legislative effort to clarify that property management fees on service contracts (general repair and maintenance) are not subject to the sales and use tax.
NAIOP North Carolina also hosted a breakfast for more than 30 members and officials. Several state legislators attended the event to learn more about NAIOP and its legislative priorities.
